Occupy protesters steal sacred relics, urinate on cross in host churches
Religious groups are abandoning their support and sheltering of Occupy Wall Street after protesters who were being allowed to take refuge in a church stole bronze from the church’s baptismal font. Guests in another local church urinated on a cross, enraging an observant rabbi who has now denounced the movement altogether.
The New York Post reports,
When the Rev. Bob Brashear prepared for Sunday services at West Park Presbyterian Church on West 86th Street, he noticed parts of the bronze baptismal font were gone. . . .
The artifact vanished just three weeks after a $2,400 Apple MacBook vanished from Brashear’s office. He told the occupiers that even when the 100-year-old Upper West Side church extended help to addicts during the 1980s drug scourge, no visitors touched its $12,500 sacramental instrument.
“Not even crackheads messed with that,” he said. . . .
In a fire-and-brimstone message to occupiers later that day, he thundered, “It was like pissing on the 99 percent.” . . .
The lid is still missing. The pastor has given protesters two weeks to vacate the church. . . .
In Brooklyn, at another church housing OWS protesters, an occupier urinated on a cross, according to Rabbi Chaim Gruber, who has angrily abandoned the OWS movement.
In a letter last week to OWS obtained by The Post, the rabbi fumed, “The Park Slope church housing occupiers was desecrated when an occupier peed inside the building and the pee came into contact with a cross.” . . .

I agree with your intent, but I have to say that many animals act BETTER than the Occupiers. Lots of cat and dog owners will tell you that such 'librties' with places to urinate or defacate simply do not occur…nor do thos animals bite the hand that feeds them. My dog would very likely not tolerate the cretins involved in the Occupy movement. These people are Pelosi's and Obama's favored movement. You already know their opinion of the TEA Party. Again, they falsly remind us that somehow, the TEA Party caused the shooting of Representative Gifford. If anyone needs a place to urinate, try the office of Ms. Pelosi, Mr. Obama, or Ms. Schultz. If in fact these accusations are true, then whoever is in charge of these protesters should weed out the bad then make it a point to give back to the church what was taken and what was destroyed. Meanwhile, here in Pittsburgh, our Occupy Pittsburgh group has demonstrated to the local community that a “protest” can be peaceful, productive, and all else that is good.

You are so right, Anthony, but in light of what I have knowledge of concerning "OWS" goals, I see no need to shelter or give haven to your group. Your goals already impose on the majority of working folks(I emphasize working) in this country.The "what you have earned is mine" mentality that oozes from your group's print and vocalized by various members in interviews runs contrary to my beliefs. I spent 2 years unemployed after my job was eliminated due to the economy. I blame no one for that action but did get another job which I am grateful for.
What you need to remember is you can't have what I have earned. LIfe is not fair and taking from one to support another is not right. Only if that person doing the supporting consents and "wants" to do such is it right. Please quit your whining and return to school or work. Work is honorable while whining about what someone else has attained is not!

As with much of our culture, even in much of our postmodern churches ' false compassion' is extended without regard for Truth. The greatest indicator is in the contrast between the church in this article who reached out in compassion to the addicts and others who were/are broken and stating that they never took anything (and implying that they did not desecrate anything). Even in their despair and desperation, those who were hurting, realized they were being helped and respected that. On the other hand, this same church, perhaps thinking they were still being compassionate, learned the hard way, that extending 'compassion' to those who are protesting and standing up for things outside the Truth (essentially welfare, entitlements and socialism rather than Scriptural principles of helping others with compassion that leads toward independence and interdependence rather than sustained dependency…i.e., 'bondage') exposed them to the very reaping of destruction (theft and desecration) that is a result of what is truly being sown – handouts, entitlements, welfare socialism, me, me, me! OWS folks have every right to protest what they want but as we've seen over and over, this is about pushing a way of life that is not in line with God's divine order and priorities and the 'fruits' are being reaped not only in these 'demonstrations' but across our country from our homes to our places of worship to our businesses and govt., because we, as a country, are reaping what we sown in our education, media and govt. systems, and to a large degree, even in our churches. I hope we will open our eyes and awaken for as Thomas Jefferson said, "I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that his justice cannot sleep forever."

If those who disagree with the OWS, socialism, communism, welfare, entitlement mentality are no more civil in our thoughts and words than the OWS people are in their actions then we are not too far apart. Every person, even if they choose to abuse themselves and others, is made in the Image of God and even if we completely disagree with their stance and actions, hopefully we can at least respond with civility and graciousness while still holding strongly and firmly to what we believe.

Funny you never heard one bad thing about the thousands of Tea party rallies around the country, not even a piece of trash was left behind. In Washington D.C. the park people said that they had nothing to do because the people were so polite and the park area was left cleaner after they left. Goes to show you who the real 99% are and who the real -99% (negative), the way a person handles himself in the presence of others goes to show the worth of a person. The OWS showed their true colors in every city that had the miss-fortune to have them show up to scream how they are mistreated the reverse happened instead.

I really think these occupy people need to wake up and open their eyes. There is a lot they need to see…the truth. The more they are doing, the more they are bringing themselves down as well. Apparently they don't see that yet, but when they do, it may be too late for them to turn things around. Their anger and hate is blinding them. So much so, they are hurting themselves along with hurting others. We do need to pray for them, not like what they're doing, but pray that God will open their eyes.
I think that 2 weeks notice is more than generous-probably alot more generous than I could be. On another Occupy note, I live in Little Rock, Arkansas. Our occupiers recently protested the police removing homeless people from an abandoned building. There was no plumbing, and the building was not safe. However, the occupiers rejected the idea of sharing their portable potties, food or shelters with the homeless. Go figure.
There is so much hate contained in these replies to the article. How sure are we that these actions actually happened, or if they did, were actually done by true OWS people? It's childs play to pretend to be part of a group and then do things to bring discredit on them, especially if you are hired to do so. This is a typical government activity; so why are we so quick to believe the media on this issue? I doubt true OWS people are doing this sort of thing, but I could be wrong.
