Soros-funded efforts push Fox News left, say columnists

by Joel McDurmon on Jan 27, 2012

Fox News’s recent firing of Glenn Beck is drawing scrutiny, some of which is stirring uncomfortable thoughts for conservatives: perhaps the Rupert Murdoch-owned conservative staple ain’t so conservative after all, at least not any more.

James Simpson writes for American Thinker, “Beck’s firing was the work of George Soros.” Soros, the billionaire leftist who in so influential throughout the liberal media, is allegedly using funds and influence to have his way with the conservative media too. Simpson writes,

Fox now appears to be working with Soros.  The network recently hired the radical-left, openly lesbian Sally Kohn, formerly of the Soros-funded Center for Community Change.  The Center for Community Change received $5.8 million from Soros’ Open Society Institute between 2004 and 2010.  Its former Board Chair is Cecilia Munoz, now President Obama’s White House director for intergovernmental affairs.  Munoz is also a former National Council of La Raza vice president and former board member of the illegal immigrant advocacy group CASA de Maryland.  She has been pushing housing grants to illegals in her White House position.

Cliff Kincaid, a Soros watchdog, reports “How George Soros Sacked Glenn Beck” in much greater detail. He begins, “A recent interview of Fox News chief Roger Ailes by Howard Kurtz suggested that the channel is becoming less conservative by design.”

  1. "…perhaps the Rupert Murdoch-owned conservative staple ain’t so conservative after all…" DUUHHH!!!

Mr. Murdoch is a good business man. He's not for any one thing other than his success. I had a feeling Fox was going to give it up. However, I don't know what was the point of getting rid of Beck. He doesn't support the any real pro-Constitutional candidates. This is why the Church shouldn't adhere to the media or sensationalism. It needs to focus on what is really just and what is true. Even if we don't like that truth. Sometimes we need to swallow that pride. Anyways…

For Soros to focus on silly things like this, is actually an advantage for Conservatives. We don't need the media to tell us what we should think. We have the Bible and the Constition for that. While he's focused on that; we'll stay focused on what we ought to do and change our personal life, community, and government.

    • Ducky, I would agree with what you have said here, except that it is fact that what we see on the idiot box does influence our thought and action. It is important to keep the (anti-liberal) viewpoint visible, and that is all that Fox did. Yes they are now leaning toward the left – maybe Soros is buying the network. I don't know. What I do know is that there are now, in the supposed attempt to present a fair and balanced approach to everything, FAR TOO MANY Communists being put on air. This country does not need to hear all about Communism every time anything political is brought up. How about just presenting the American viewpoint.

Soros is a creepy megalomaniac, we all know that. It is unfortunate that he has the wealth to spread his disease about the world, but the most disheartening thing is how people in other positions of power like Murdoch allow themselves to be bought.

    • Another powerful force which has driven FOX to the left, is the sponsors. Sponsors are often driven by “other” powerful forces, notably the boycotting preferences of select groups, one in particular is the gay lobby. They are far more organized than many would have you believe, and they push their agendae throughout our nation. Not even the communists are THAT organized. Whether its Latinos, socialists, educators or any other groups, they know the power of collective action, and many are well organized.

On an aside, one other issue which has bothered me about FOX News, is that it regularly promotes a Roman Catholic opinion on issues dealing with christian doctrine. That is the position of FOX for many years, and having that young Vatican priest Johnathan on during such discussions is one example. Another was the regular visiting opinion of William Donohue, who was with the Catholic League. Catholicism isn’t orthodox christianity to me and many other christians, and I find it as factitious as it is in most movies which portray priests as the voice of christianity. That’s one issue I’ll give Glenn Beck, in that he didn’t promote his Mormon views, which I also don’t agree with theologically, but I appreciated the other virtues of his show.

All this said, I’m dismayed with FOX News, and I’ve ceased watching but a few shows. Their ratings will confirm all of what has been said, as their move to the left will having them sucking in upcoming Nielsen ratings.

  2. I was able to handle Glenn Beck’s dismissal, but I personally believe you are no longer the conservative TV we thought you to be.

It is a shame, that with all the middle class is going through, that you have chosen to money (the dark side) over people and turned progressive/non conservative. The greed people promote is just not the LORD”s Way. I will pray for your immortal soul.

    −Jo Oliver
    • Yes, I have noticed the same thing. FOX appears to be leaning way too far to the left. Very noticible are Megan Kelley, Shepard Smith and several more.

      −Rabbit
  3. I have noticed this shift myself. Very few so called conservative will risk losing money to stand up for America’s values.
    Very sad.

  4. I don't watch Fox as much anymore, I followed GB.

    −Alice
  5. I don't think Beck was fired. Beck said it was time for him to begin a new venture…GBTV.

  6. Have been a loyal viewer from the beginning, so I feel I can sence the new liberal trend to the left that is happening at your
network. Please remember that we conservatives made you #1…… one is never to big too smart and too greedy to loose
a good reputation and ratings for not being "Fair and Balanced"

We will be vigilant in watching what Sally Kohn and your future hirings bring to your networks,

    −Jan
  7. I believe you are right Marilyn! Glen swears up and down he was not fired that he did this on his own free will. George Soros spent a bundle of money early on trying to get Glen fired. He is just like all Liberals, they cannot stand the truth?

    −Paul
  8. Try "The Freedon Watch" with Judge Nepoltano

    −R. Cook
  9. Just by watching Fox News, I new something was up and felt very strongly they gave in to the Devil . Sadly, in the end, they will only have hurt themselves. When you side with evil…you receive evil back. If I were working for them and new Soros was behind this, I would quit and depend on God helping me find other work. I will now not watch anymore of Fox News. I don't pay attention to the others either. I will get my info from Glenn Beck or 'Freedom watch,' with Judge Nepoltano.

    −Marie
  10. I quit watching Fox for the most part. Fox News pretends to be conservative while Fox affiliates have some of the worst programming. It is more accurate to call it a libertarian leaning network…definitely not conservative although it has a few conservatives on it. Judge Andrew Napolitano is a libertarian. I saw him speak at Right Online in Las Vegas and he talked about how the framers violated their own Constitution within a few years. The framers believed that the Constitution allowed for laws regarding personal behavior, especially on the State level, even regarding sexual matters. Libertarians believe in a radical personal liberty that goes far beyond what the founders intended. John Stossel is also libertarian. Bill O'Reilly is a blowhard, who claims to be Catholic (?) who had Rosie O'Donnell on his show to promote gay couples adopting children. If you don't believe me please look it up. I watched the interview and it was totally softball and Bill said he believed they should be able to adopt children. MMMkay. He had another show later complaining about how confusing it was for children to go on a school field trip to the courthouse to witness a gay union. So it's ok to have two mommies or two daddies and that's not confusing??? So that was the end of Bill O'Reilly's show for me. Sean Hannity is a conservative. On the whole the network parrots whatever the main stream media news of the day is…rather than bringing real news. They need leftist talking heads to present the other side for the predictable talking head debate format. The Sunday shows are an exception, they are still worth watching.

    −G. Uest
  11. I agree. Other than two or three individuals, FOX has joined the mainstream media.

    −Daniel from TN
  12. I AGREE. FOX NEWS HAS BEEN TAKEN OVER BY PEOPLE WITH A RADICAL HATE AMERICA AJENDA. I HAVE PRETTY MUCH QUIT W TCHING THESE MARISTS HOSTS . FOX , WITHIN THE LAST YEAR HAVE HIRED ONLY AMERICAN HATE FILLED COMENTATORS.. WHEN G.B. LEFT THEY LOST THE ONLY FREEDOM LOVING EMPLOYEE..EXCEPT FOR THE JUDGE, EVERY ONE IS PRO ROMNEY. SO MUCH FOR FAIR AND BALLANCED.

    • Fear is a great motivator….
The fear of losing something, or
The fear of not obtaining something.
Especially the fear of no money or food………..
      (and who controls everything now?
      your islamic socialist obozo)

      −David in MA
  13. Hey Joel- where did you get the idea that Glenn Beck was fired? It's pretty clear from the success of his online network he had planned on leaving! No way did he get the boot.

    −Scott Todd
  14. Look at what they did to Hank Williams Jr. Gretchen basically said did you just compare the president to Hurled? When he clearly did not say that.

  15. FOX will lose watchers which will reflect in loss of advertising……..which will be their just reward.
Lets face it people, all TV is mind influancing, the older watchers have the ability to know what is true and what is BS. The younger citizens who have been "cultivated" via the government school system will have a problem separating the truth from the BS…..But that is what the socialists in government want….
Remember the communist saying? Capture the children, capture the nation.
With obozo in the White House America is on a path to the utopia socialism promises, but has never been able to produce.
INSANITY:—–DOING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER EXPECTING DIFFERENT RESULTS, that is what socialism and socialists are, insane!

  16. I believe, and always will, that Ovomit is "not a natural born citizen". I've sent Fox news emails I've received concerning this issue and they've done nothing to prove, or disprove this thought. I know all news media have their investigative journalist whose job is to dig for the truth and Fox has done nothing. I believe anyone working for any news media who would "dig for the truth" would soon be without a job. Look at how Fox is covering the GOP debates for their nomination. I have always been a registered Republican, but have now switched to INDEPENDENT.

    −Lyle Kelley
  17. Factually, "News Media" is a loose (tic) collaboration of prostitutes writing about prostitutes for prostitutes. OOOooh, AAaah, rub me there while I lick you here. blah.,etc. BORING and thoroughly understood by SOROS'S Nemesis, Thinking Humanity.

    −Troubleshooter
  18. I notice, when switching channels back and forth, that FOX is sounding more and more like MSNBC and CNN. Meghan Kelly, Shepard Smith, and even sometimes some of the hosts of "The 5" (and I'm not talking Beckel who is the left wing, liberal on the show) sound like they are going progressive/liberal/anti conservatism on me. The only people I can watch without screaming at the TV is the morning show "Fox and Friends," Niel Cavuto, Stuart Varney (when he subs for someone), and Bret Bair. All the others sound more and more like Rachel Maddow every day.

I notice that I watch less and less-sometimes going weeks without even turning the tube on…just a bunch of left wing drivel, sex, and stupidity anymore. The news is all propaganda and the sitcoms are stupid and are an isult to most people's intellegence (Jersey Shore anyone?).

    −Sue
    • I wouldn't include Megyn Kelly or Eric Bolling of the "Five" in with what you're saying. I think Varney is fantastic. But O'Reilly has fallen so far he just pisses me off anymore.

      −Dan is Right!
    • I swore off Fox News several years ago when I got tired of how oily the people there sounded.

I can't see whay everyone here seems to see in GB. The times I've watched him, it was a total turn-off with his emoting and I think he's got serious mental problems and is a loose cannon. I don't tend to make any human being my god, or a panacea, though. People are all the time looking for a god here on Earth to save them and there isn't anyone who could fill that bill. I've never been fond of TV personalities of any kind, especially TV preachers.

Something happens to TV celebs, even political ones, when they get a sense of their perceived power and it ain't pretty, then they sell out.

  21. FOX News becoming Liberal? Please! For all those ignorant little paeons who say that FOX News "lies": WHERE? HOW? WHAT ARE YOUR SOURCES? As for FOX News "firing" Glenn Beck, that is a LIE IN AND OF ITSELF. Toward the end of "The Glenn Beck Program"'s tenure on FOX, Mr. Beck said that his contract with FOX was coming to an AMICABLE end as per the terms of that contract…there was no "firing" of Glenn Beck at all! As per that particular Liberal lie, WHERE ARE THE SOURCES? HOW RELIABLE ARE THEY? If even one of them has the slightest association with a George Soros-funded organization, then that source is IMMEDIATELY suspect.

    −John Tashjian
    • John, Do you not think people can think for themselves? I couldn't care less if GB was fired, or quit. I don't think he's all that in the first place. From the first time I ever watched him, he gave me the creeps, the way he acted. He's an emotional wreck and I don't trust people like that because they're just not right in the head.

      −Disgusted
  22. i have noticed lately that they are going to the left without Glenn there i hardly watch it.

  23. Soros firing Beck? I don't know but this is an interesting question; Will Brit Hume join Glenn Beck?

  24. I am totally annoyed but not surprised by the TOTAL lack of TV and Newspaper coverage of the recent court ruling in Georgia that would bump OBUMMER off the Presidential ticket due to his inability to substantiate his US birth right. Let's see how creative they'll be to overturn this one. I have no doubt that OBUMMER will be successful. I made the same comment earlier on another web-site and I was censored out. IMAGINE!!!

    −Mike from Colorado
    • I agree with you….. no mention by any media of Bo’s failure to show up at the hearing in Ga. Fox news will not touch anything that isn’t supportive of BO/ Those of us who have questioned the fact that BO is not a natural born citizen are sneered at and laughed at by all on Fox including B O’reilly . Saun Hannity and before he left even Glenn Beck. Another thing i’ve always laughed at is the so called feud between BO and Fox news …. it is a made up ratings scheme.

  25. I am new at this – so here goes. I became aware of FOX during the run-up to the 2008 disaster, where I was introduced to Glen Beck… and quite honestly it was he who fostered my continuing interest in FOX. I have, however, some very serious concerns with respect to the talking heads of FOX and the fact that they collectively participate in what I refer to as 'Global Speak' with the most annoying example this being consistent replacement of the term 'State Line' with "BORDER". Now I know this opening lacks the sizzle of some of your contributors, but it is intended to set the tone for my first contribution.

Please recall the most probable impetus for the fall from grace of Glen Beck, which both preceded and necessitated the Soros analysis. Glen made a valiant, albeit solo, attempt to bring to the attention of the viewing populous an examination of the "Council on Foreign Relations" (CFR) and was shut down after his third attempt. This action comes as no surprise when one understands the both Soros and Murdoch are biggie sized members of the (CFR). OK… so what has that got to do with anything? Well one of the operational goals of the (CFR) has been to gain control of the media (4th Estate if you will) and the entertainment industries in order to be able to craft legislation from without Congress… This is happening as we comment! Consider, for a moment, the disturbing fact that all of the individuals on both tickets Red & Blue for the run-up to 2008 were and remain members of the (CFR). Now former Gov. Romney appears to have had his name removed from the (CFR) membership list… while former Speaker Gingrich is still resident on that list. Since all the potential candidates who are not members of the (CFR)(are distinguished by their collective absence certainly would beg a moment of pause. I don't know about Rick Santorum!

Now with respect to former Gov. Romney (a prime example of the over-schooled and under-educated), which I am sure endears him to the likewise challenged media, is actually running a campaign that closely apes that of the current occupant of the White House. He says nothing while intentionally burning up debate time. Gingrich on the other hand has, like it or not, actual and highly relevant experience and the ability to effectively communicate his position to the 'folks'. (refreshing)

In closing I am very frustrated with the narcissistic rambling of big Bill 'O' as he attempts cloud the minds of the folks. This guy should have remained a teacher or (maybe not)… I have low expectations that this will ever make it onto this post, however. it might offer a reasonable point of reference if it actually does!
    By for now

    • I really believe O'Reilly voted for Ozippo because he's thrown him more passes than Brady throws to Gronkowski. And now he sort of feels the remorse, but still doesn't want to admit he was WRONG.

I really liked your comment about Romney because it's exactly what I've been thinking. He talks and talks, but says nothing. Newt actually has meaning to his words and if you look at the way he actually governed in the House, forget about the couch and the witch or Freddie Mac and Fanny Mae or the "parallel monogamy", it was as a conservative. So if he acted the same as President, I would be quite satisfied with him.

      −Dan is Right!
  26. You are right. I have noticed that the Morning Show has more liberals on allowing them to spew their lies and propaganda without any interruption from the hosts. Debbie Schultz is on constantly with her outrageous lies. Juan Williams is totally in the tank for Obama always making excuses and justifying his failed policies. Rivera was on the show to give his biased opinion on immigration. He is always on the side of the illegals. The Five is a joke. Bob Beckel is an idiot, to him, the liberals can do no wrong and the Republicans are all stupid. Fox no longer offers the conservative side of the issues. Last week there was a round table discussion on class warfare, the two liberals were given unlimited, uninterrupted time to promote their justification , while the conservative was cut off (using time constraints as an excuse) to show a segment on promoting a book on John Kennedy, Jr.'s marriage. Just who is producing the show now? they are certainly promoting the liberal views, not much different than NBC, CNN,CBS and PBS O'Riley never allows his guest to complete a sentence, he constantly interrupts. Why does he even have a guest, he wants to do all the talking. Hannity is getting to be the same way. Don't they understand that we would rather hear what their guest has to say?? They should also lose J. Williams and B. Beckel. we know what they are going to say before they say it. Just more Obama, Liberal butt kissing Fox is losing me as a viewer.

    −Barbara
  27. Fox is the "New York Banner" and Murdoch is "Gail Wynand"….they'll do what makes them a buck and brings them power. The talking heads aren't all that conservatively convincing. Mostly light weight conservative entertainers. If it's conservative..fine. Look what they did to the WSJ? It used to be business news. Now it's a pile of crap.

    −Bob
  28. I think what y'all are missing is that the Federal watchdog for this network has just become overtly liberal, having been 'loaded' by Obama – I am not so much worried that Fox News is going liberal as I am that they will stop portraying the conservative side in a positive light as all of the other networks have long ago done. In order for Fox to survive, they have to be able to show that they are 'fair and balanced' – if they have no leftists, how do they do that?

It is clear to me that the election of Obama will have far reaching effects for years to come, even if he is not re-elected. The government bureaucracy has grown in leaps and bounds as has the 'Brown shirts' in the form of public employee unions. I am afraid that we will find that even our newly elected 'conservatives' will be thwarted from doing our will because too much power has been vested into the hands of the bureaucracy.

    −Jim
    • Jim… you are correct! However… Please consider the following statement as made by the initiating protagonists of Dec 7th 1941… "We have won nothing… we have just managed to awaken a sleeping giant"

Our progressive (friends?) have just entered into a modern day version of Dec 7th by forcing WE the PEOPLE into a non-violent conflict for the very heart and soul of our Nation. They are about to experience the amalgamation of the indomitable American spirit, which is something that one would be well advised to NOT get on the wrong side of! I would definitely not want to be a progressive in the coming months!

Those socially and intellectually challenged progressives among us have so little between their ears that they lack the requisite acumen to understand the POWER of a free people that are beginning to collectively internalize the understanding that they are being both willfully and purposefully maneuvered into the blackness of a modern feudalism… complete with a monarchy, eagerly willing, to engage in Holy warfare over who's interpretation of GOD is more accurate.

      −104jok
  29. I am so tired of Fox news. They want to be so fair and balanced they have fallen over to the left. It's not a news program, but an opinion show, with atleast one lefty to talk over whoever is speaking. You have Bickel, Colmes, Hahn and Juan not to mention the other libs they bring in. They spend more time covering a car chase or shark siting than on the actual news. I might as well watch MSNBC or CNN. Atleast they are honest about their programing. Beck is still my guy, if you don't have GBTV you are missing out. He is not afraid of Spooky Dude or BO

    −GramSam
  30. There has been some speculation lately that Fox is "going native" and slowly becoming more liberal; more like the other networks.
Here is my take on it and I hope you can do something to stop this trend.
After reading that Murdock's wife and children were liberals, and Murdock wasn't getting any younger, I figured it was a matter of time before the kids and wife started stacking the deck against the old man and slowly but surely moving matters towards the Left and, Voila! I was right.
    Hannity is a true conservative.
The hosts, other than Bob Beckel and Dana Parino, on the Five@Five seem to be conservatives.
Beckel is a raving Lib, of course, but that's why they hired him …for "balance".
Parino doesn't seem to know what she is plus she can't string out a sentence properly.
Neal Cavuto, Stuart Varney and the Fox business programs are free market cheer leaders so that's good although I spotted that Sally Kohl with her smartass smirk as a lesbian immediately.
As a woman, that's a big turn off for me.
I do love Krauthammer and Brett Baier and that whole group…they're sound conservatives and even Juan Williams comes across as a pretty common-sense Liberal.
I think Greta is very conservative leaning but her programming is so often about creepy stuff: missing babies or young women in Latin American countries where they had no business going in the first place.
O'Reilly. Give me a break. He only believes in himself. His narcissism is nauseating.
I think those morning programs are definitely conservative and I appreciate that about Fox.
However, we all know it is only a matter of time before the Old Man croaks and the kids ruin the network entirely and it will fade away.
Maybe another network will crop up and fill in the gap and make a ton of money and prove, once again, that most Americans LIKE fair and balanced if not conservatively slanted news. Period.
Please pass this on to the powers that be.

    −SALLYFARRAR
  31. I use to watch Fox all the time, especially when Glen Beck was on. I have noticed a subtle change over the past year sense GB has been gone. I believe the network has gone from conservative to Whatever Soros has instructed them to do.I had a hunch that Glen Left because of the changes coming. The way that most of the Anchors present and defend most topics lead me to believe that FOX has been infiltrated and consumed with the desires of wealth and position rather than truth and fairness. Our nation is infected with a disease of communism.

    −Ed
  32. I've been saying that for the past 2 years! O'Reill is always making excuses for Hussain and really doesn't cover the real news! He ignores too much, like the illegal alien who raped and murdered a 1 year old baby girl. He's such an advocate for kids so why didn;'t he even mention this story? O'Reilly has gone over to the dark side! Megyn Kelly is another one who isn't hiding her liberal beliefs as well as she used to. Shepherd Smith has always been a liberal and I haven't watched him for over 3 years. Most are on the border of the Jedi and the dark side, going through the door to the emperor! Now they hired a Soros funded pawn? I'm done with all the networks!

    −kRIS
  33. This column and most of the comments are just wrong. Glenn wasn’t fired. Fox does not claim to be a conservative channel – they claim to be fair and balanced. That is something completely different. It’s that “fair” part that gets a lot of Kool Aid drinkers on the right fired up. I see enough comments that Megyn Kelly is showing her liberal bias along with other of the Fox News Channel on-air personalities with nothing to back up the claims. I don’t sit and watch Fox 24/7, but I do watch it a lot. As I said up front, this column and many of the comments are simply wrong.

'News' is merely a means to selling things (ideas, products, fill in the blank). Accuracy is secondary to ratings.
