Paul campaign demands Newt pay medicals after campaign assault
On Tuesday Yahoo!News posted a reported assault by the Gingrich campaign upon a Ron Paul supporter outside a voting stop near Orlando. The Miami Herald related the incident, citing the “Gingrich goon squad” for assaulting a young man, Eddie Dillard, who was clearly at the spot first and clearly minding his own business when the Gingrich entourage muscled up:
One of Gingrich’s security agents stepped in front of him. When Dillard didn’t budge, the agent lifted his heeled shoe over Dillard’s bare foot and dug the back of it into his skin, twisting it side-to-side like he was stomping out a cigarette. Shocked, Dillard kept his ground and took a picture of the agent with his phone, which was quickly knocked out of his hand. Dillard slipped off his flip-flop to pick up the phone with his foot, and a Gingrich supporter kicked the sandal away.
“Don’t kick me!” Dillard said to the man who knocked away his sandal. More members of Gingrich’s security retinue approached, shoving their shoulders and chests in front of him.
“Just block him!” a Gingrich campaign aide said. “Everyone step on his toes!”
It now appears the young man’s foot was broken in the stop. The DailyCaller.com reports that the Ron Paul campaign is demanding Newt’s camp pay the medical bills. Paul campaign manager Jesse Benton said,
“I call on Congressman Gingrich to publicly apologize to Mr. Dillard,” Benton said. “In addition, we ask that those Gingrich campaign staff directly involved in the episode be immediately terminated” . . .
Come Wednesday afternoon, the Paul campaign had not received a satisfactory response, and so released another statement, adding to its list of demands.
“Newt’s campaign staff broke Eddie Dillard’s foot, yet we still have not heard from Gingrich about how he plans to right the situation,” said Benton. “Today, we are calling on Newt Gingrich to pay for Eddie’s medical bills.”

Pay up Newt! And, I want my money back from Fannie and Freddie, Newt!
This sounds so much like an Obama stunt that I have to hear a lot more before I'll beleve it. If it's true it's deplorable.
So, like I tell my kids, "You're dumb enough to KNOW that putting yourself in a certain situation might get you hurt but you do it anyway for publicity? Go sit down!" I would support their right to make a stupid choice, but then don't tell me I'm the one that should pay for your stupidity, since I KNOW I raised you with more brains than that!!!
Aren't you a prize. You think he brought it on himself? So, you think it was okay for Newt's goons to do this? And you think that you should give up your spot because Newt's goons wanted it? And you would teach your kids to do the same? Move to the middle east…they'll love your sorry cowardly a ss there.
Totally agree with you DSW. This guy intentionally was trying to start something. If not, why then did he move close to Newt and raise his Paul sign? He was trying to create a ruckus. He was being rude and obnoxious.
This guy was put there by either Romney or Paul's campaign people to cause a problem. Doesn't anyone think it strange that with TV cameramen and photographers there (not to mention people that were there for voting), that not one person has backed up this story? That no one caught it on camera????!!!
As for the photo of the foot…..could have been photoshopped, could also have been someone else's foot!
That's a pretty dumb response considering the guy was there first, and the Newt bus decided they wanted his spot for a photo opp. And since it WAS a photo opp, don't you think Newt's goons would have taken and released pictures and/or video if Dillard wasn't the first one there and tried to muscle in afterwards?
Dillard should have given the security goon a nice ball tap – that would have backed him off a few steps.
Good grief, DSW. It's a-holes like you who are long overdue for a serious shellacing. I suppose by your logic that rape victims deserve what they get. The reasons continue to mount NOT to vote for Gingrinch. It's no surprise Newt's campaign would follow his lead with all the nasty classless acts of late.
Some people in this country are begging for a fight. Be careful what you wish for.
Maybe I should remind that this is actually an assault. Hope this guy gets a good attorney. By the way he had every right to be there. This is not the first time Newts goons have assaulted people.
Excuse me , i'm not a paul supporter , i'm an undecieded . did you even read that artical? The guy was already standing there when newts guy proceeded to asult him.
There seems to be no low that the Ron Paul an Romney campaigns won’t stoop to create slander. The man was totally surrounded by news reporters and cameramen, yet no bonified reporter filmed it or reported it first hand. If anyone stepped on his foot it was probably one of the TV cameramen. This was an insident created by a RP plant and reported by a Romney ‘reporter.’
YOU can join DSW as a low-life too.
Have you ever seen camera and news people at an event like this. Their cameras are not pointing down at peoples feet you idiot.
intellect is not that guys strong suit is it? it was an example of Iran the big bullie and Islam coming to the US if the likes of Paul win anything
How come you're still breathing? How many times has newt and mitt done harm to the people they've supposed to represent vs Paul ? Some folks just ain't got no fetchin up.
Actually, to hear you three on these posts, it's an example of when the muslims in America want special treatment, and when Americans protest, the muslims threaten us AND WE BACK DOWN just like you three idiots think he should have done!!
Take it to Peoples Court.
Well, that decides it. I'm voting for Paul.
LOL, Me too, I just couldn't make up my mind before but this did the trick.
And that's exactly what the whole fabricated situation was intended to do! What a fool you two are!
Is irony often lost on you?
I am just wondering who saw this happen? Was an ambulance called for the guy with the alleged broken foot? Were the cops called? Just asking.
Wow! It sounds like the Newt supporters are advocating submission to thuggery. If I'm on the street, and a couple gang bangers threaten me to step aside, and I choose not to, it's MY fault if I get a beat down, because I should have "known better"? So much for America, bring on the brown shirts…:(
Ron has valid points. No one supporting Newt is "advocating submission to thuggery". Lets quit twisting words of others. We're talking solely about this incident—nothing else!
We're not condoning any action (or so-called action) that took place. Actually that's the whole jest of it. A guy claims (and that's the important word here!!!…claims!) to have had his foot stepped on for no reason! (again key words–no reason). With all the other people and cameramen around, don't you think it strange that not one other person has come forward to back up this story? And not one photo of it?
A group of guys surrounding one single guy, who is (supposedly) yelling at them to "don't kick me", would cause others to take notice. Don't you think? And in this day and age, everyone has cell phones with cameras; not to mention the "news media horde" that were there! (Keep in mind that those news media people thrive on stories like that & would be falling over each other to get photos of it happening!) So why aren't there pictures plastered all over the internet if it truly happened???????
Wake up people. This was a pre-planned setup most likely by Romney's or Paul's campaign people. Funny, too, how the guy never even mentions a broken foot when the story broke on Tues. Here it is 3 days later and we're now hearing about a broken foot. Hmmm with a broken foot, how did he manage to walk away? Also if someone had "dug the back of it (heel of his shoe) into his skin, twisting it side-to-side", don't you think that at that point, you'd be yelling at the guy? But Dilland says nothing—-doesn't even budge! Doesn't try to push the guy off. Strange, very, very strange!!!
If newt does not fire these thugs he will loose alot of votes I will not vote for him if he lets this happen and does not say a work about it then I think he would let his tugs do the same thing in the white house no thanks we dont need tugs hurting other people just because they dont do what they are told you three dumb asss on here need your out of your a– how would you like it to be done to you
Get real…..this didn't happen! There was a horde of news media there, not to mention voters who I'm sure had cell phones and yet not one photo emerges???? The news media would have been falling over each other to get photos of such a happening and it would have been all over the TV networks!
With all this infighting Obama is a shoe in and we all loose. :-(
I want to know why charges weren't filed.
Maybe because it didn't happen? Use some logic here. Lots of news media there. They would have been falling over each other to get that story/photos. Voters in close proximity who more than likely had cell phones with a camera function. And yet, not one photo of the so called 'incident' emerges.
Then you get Dillard saying that he "kept his ground" while Newt's aide "dug the back of it (heel of his shoe) into his (Dillard's) skin, twisting it side-to-side". Really? And this was the foot that was supposedly broken"? And yet Dillard didn't say a thing! Didn't scream out in pain? Didn't yell at him to get off his foot? Didn't try and push the guy away? Nope! Dillard says he took a photo. Imagine that…..all this pain from a broken foot and someone's shoe heel being twisted into your skin (yikes, I can 'feel' the pain myself!) and all he can think about doing is reaching in his pocket to get his cell phone to take a photo???? Would that have been your reaction if that exact same thing had happened to you? My guess is at the very least, you would yell at the guy and most likely would have attempted to push him away. Also, with a crowd of news media and other ordinary people around, yelling out would have been the most logical way to get this guy away from you because everyone is then going to focus their attention on the two of you. And at that point, no one is going to be bothering you. Not with a horde of news media there!
You keep saying the news would’ve reported it… but I remember a march of union workers where some SEIU members beat up an old black man and even with all the media presence, only one video emerged – and there were thousands of people around!! You weren’t there so stop trying to tell everyone else what to think! Yes, this guy claims this happened… Newt at least has the responsibility to LOOK INTO THE MATTER not just ignore it.
Ron Paul 2012
How did they know he was a Ron Paul supporter, I wonder? Was he acting out? Was he disrupting the speech? We only hear one side of the story. I want to hear the whole story, before I make a determination as to who was at fault.
"How did they know he was a Ron Paul supporter."
Usually, standing outside a voting place with a sign that says "Ron Paul 2012" designates one as a Ron Paul supporter.
If this is true, it would seem that this unfortunate assault would reflect the anger that has been building in the Gingrich camp,
from the top down, and should be addressed, and corrected, with compensation being made to the young man who is the
victim. I think that if this were my son who was assaulted, I would go after the entire Gingrich outfit in court. Further, I don't believe this young man need worry about college tuition, after being given the grounds for a lawsuit, after such a brazen, and
classless act. Someone please counsel this young man and his family.
Yes, this young man does need to be counseled –about his lying. Use some logic here. Lots of news media there. They would have been falling over each other to get that story/photos. Voters in close proximity who more than likely had cell phones with a camera function. And yet, not one photo of the so called 'incident' emerges.

Click on the link in the first sentence of the article for the whole story – Dillard was there with his Ron Paul sign prior to even knowing that a Gingrich contingent was even going to make an appearance at that location.
That's what Dillard says. But my guess is that they knew darn well that Newt was going to arrive there. This was a setup to create a fabrication against Newt to help Paul in his ratings. Paul is not going to go after Romney–he's looking to unseat Newt for 2nd place where he could possibly (in his mind anyways) have a chance at the GOP nomination. (It'll never happen though. Paul has tried how many times now to become the Presidential candidate?)
Dillard's story is full of loopholes. Use some logic here. Lots of news media there. They would have been falling over each other to get that story/photos. Voters in close proximity who more than likely had cell phones with a camera function. And yet, not one photo of the so called 'incident' emerges.

You make a lot of sense out of a crazy situation.
The article says it was a security agent. Are not they assigned to the individual candidates by the government? If so, it should be Secret Service that does the firing.
Is there any question that they are morally and legally responsible for payment of bills over an assault? While Newt was probably unaware of the incident, does he promote this type of "win-all" philosophy? Terminated? They all ought to be in jail for assault. BTW I am not a Ron Paul supporter, but I deplore both Romney and Gingrich for their positions and lack of consistency. Where Republicans have failed is to strongly put forth anyone that people of integrity and reason can vote for.
What gets me with these Newters (pro-Newt commentators) is that they come in here (a pro-Ron Paul site) and comment like if they're going to be right without any reasoning to back it up. The Newters are more than welcome to comment, but please know where you are commenting on. Newters or Newt Thugs?
Newt wants to use more illegal executive orders, than maybe BO did, you can see where this type of control attitude leads. I leads to Lawlessness.
I was standing right there when this “incident” took place. I should say accident took place. It is 100% false. We were all getting stepped on. Eddies foot wasn’t broken because I went up to him after and he was just fine. He looked like a nice guy but I feel he is looking for his 15 minutes of fame. Anyone with questions call me. 601-405-9622

Scott you claim you where there? All the way from mississippi? Is this due to your involvement with Newts Campagin?
tried calling but no answer………
I smell a rat folks. Are folks so afraid of Newt that they would do anything to destroy this man. Anyone who believes this hogwash is either very naive, or just plain stupid. This is nothing more than a set up. No politician can be doubt enough to allow his staff to hurt other people, unless of course they're from the left wing socialist misfits. We've already seen how dirty these folks will get to put Obama back in office. We were told the Obama administration and his backers would do anything to get him reelected and the story we just read sounds more like the smear tactics of the left to systematically destroy each Republican candidate, one at a time, starting with Newt Gingrich. I believe with everything in me that the hoodlums who attacked Eddie Dillard were plants from the left of the Democrat Party. If the story is by chance true, then they should be terminated at once and Newt Gingrich should step aside. I can only wish there would have been this much outcry from The NAACP and the Obama campaign when the Black Panthers used their own intimidation tactics during the presidentail election. Where were you Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson?
