Business Insider: Ron Paul quietly taking over the Republican Party

by Joel McDurmon on Feb 16, 2012

Debacles in the Iowa, Nevada, and Maine caucuses have all been laced with anti-Paul bias driven by establishment Republican insiders, but the resulting pressures are spurring drastic changes. BusinessInsider.com reports how ”Ron Paul is secretly taking over the Republican Party.”

Ironically, the latest and perhaps most egregious debacle in Maine shows signs of something more than mere caucus chaos: the exclusion of vote counting focused exclusively on pro-Paul areas and did not affect those leaning toward Romney. The pattern speaks loudly.

“It’s too common,” senior advisor Doug Wead told Business Insider. “If it was chaos, we would expect strong Romney counties to be unreported, and that’s not what’s happening.”

But the chaos (or corruption, whichever it be) is backfiring in all these states. Consider,

Iowa GOP establishment chairman resigns; pro-Paul chairman takes his place.

Nevada GOP establishment chairman resigns; Paul supporters are in good position to take his place.

Business Insider concludes that pressure is now mounting in Maine for a repeat of the same pattern.

But state party machinations are already starting to backfire. The Paul campaign believes it has won the majority of Maine’s delegates — and the perceived election fraud has galvanized Paul supporters to demand their votes be counted in the state’s straw poll ‘beauty contest.’

Caucus chaos has also proved to be fertile ground for Paul’s quiet takeover of the Republican Party. Since 2008, the campaign and Paul’s Campaign for Liberty PAC have made a concerted effort to get Paul sympathists involved in the political process. Now, tumult in state party organizations has allowed these supporters to rise up the ranks.

“We like strong party leadership when it comes from us,” Paul campaign chair Jesse Benton told Business Insider. “Our people work very hard to make sure that their voice is heard.”

The fruits of this labor are evident in Iowa, where Paul’s former state campaign co-chair A.J. Spiker was just elected as the new chairman of the Iowa Republican Party. Spiker replaces Matt Strawn, who stepped down over this year’s Iowa caucus dustup. In Nevada, the state chair has also resigned over caucus disaster, and several Ron Paul supporters are well-positioned to step up to fill the void. These new leaders not only expand Paul’s influence at the state level, but also help protect Paul and his hard-won delegates from state party machinations as the delegate-selection process moves to district and state conventions, and eventually the Republican National Convention this summer.

“We are always trying to bring people into the party,” Benton said. “I think that is a very positive thing for Republicans. Ron is the person who can build the Republican base, bring new blood into the party. That’s how you build the party.”

In Maine, the caucus disaster has made the state GOP prime for a Ron Paul takeover. And that means that Paul’s hard-won delegates will be protected as the delegate selection process.

  1. Move over Big government conservatives. Small government people are taking over. HAAHAHAHAHAHAH Ok sorry I had to laugh.
Either you can adhere to changes or you can bury your head and vote for somebody that is of the old ways such as Santorum, Gingrich, or Romney.

    END THE FED
    Ron Paul 2012!!!

    • We have to make sure that Acorn does not get to much fraud in election ,, Picture ID would help election poll workers to help know if person voting is still alive,,, also get rid of EPA+ dept of energy

      −Edward Shick
    • Ron Paul could not take over a Girl Scout cookie route – the man stands NO chance of becoming the GOP nominee & I hope his supporters realize that & vote for whomever gets the nod. Have a great day – put down the pipe.

      −CaptRCG
  2. I would expect voter fraud from Democrats, but I'm very disappointed to hear that the Republican heads are doing the same thing to get the results they want. Cheating to get the results you want is never right.

    −Jim M.
    • Why? The GOP is no different from the Democrats. They are all one big party behind closed doors. The only person I see standing out form the crowd of corruption is Ron Paul. And that is why they are trying to cheat him out of his votes and possibly the Presidency. Ron Paul would put the pride back into America. Our Traitorous leaders (on both sides) aren't in politics for this Nation, they are in it for self recognition, personal gain and power. On the other hand, Ron Paul is running for POTUS to try to restore our Constitution. My vote goes to Ron Paul. I want my Country back.

      • Put the pipe down – Paul could never be the nominee – it's not his turn – wether we like it or not DC works by their rules – so far it looks like they want Romney – but he might get pushed aside by Newt – but Paul will never see the inside of the WH unless he is invited by President Romney or Newt

        −CaptRCG
      • What about Santorum? You forgot Santorum. Just admit it. You're for big government.

        −Ducky
      • Romney, Newt, Obama, Santorum . . . is there a difference? None of those bought off puppets deserves the White House. Ron Paul is the only man running that I see worth wasting my time to stand in line to vote for. Anybody else and it will be the SOS, the demise of America. My vote goes to Ron Paul.

        −orples
      • Yeah Capt, let's just keep going along with the rules in DC seeing that they're making our country more and more successful. Your kind of thinking is what got us into this mess! Man up and do the right thing! Vote for our only true choice – Ron Paul!

        −sawu
      • Yes, Ron Paul certainly does stand out. After 30 years campaigning he still doesn't understand that he has no business running for President. His foreign policy and stance on the military are enough to finish his run.

        −JulesV29
    • Realize that for the most part, the GOP heads are liberals just as the Democrat heads are, just of a slightly different stripe. They are overt thieves (socialists), so voter fraud should not be surprising.

      −Toni
  3. We are either going to get small government slowly by starting with electing Ron Paul as President, or we're going to get it all at once when the US economy collapses under the weight of its debt. It would have happened already if it were not for the Federal Reserve printing US$ as fast as the presses can run. Look to Greece (followed by the rest of the EU) for the future.

    −KJQ
    • If it weren't for the Federal Reserve counterfeiting money, we never would have been able to get as far into debt as we are today. If you think the Federal Reserve is our friend, you need to watch "The Money Masters". I bet you'd do a 180 on your opinion of them. They are a cancer that is destroying America.

      −orples
  4. Nothing the GOP does to try to cheat Paul surprises me after the little show of tuck and run they pulled in Nevada in 2008. I hope Ron Paul not only quietly takes over the Republican Party, but goes on to win the White House. America needs a Constitutional leader while we still have a Constitution to restore. Ron Paul 2012. Let's keep America a Sovereign Nation!

    −orples
  5. Thank God there is a new sheriff in town and the bandits and corrupt politicians are being run out of town. I as a patriot and citizen applaud this development and hope n pray all citizens get off their butts and see that their local elections are legitimate and aboveboard !

    −William R Nicholson
  6. Ron Paul seems like a good deal on some matters but in others he is seriously off the mark. Then there is all the newsletters he says he knew nothing about but they had his name on them. He would gut our military and then where would we be in the World, To maintane our place in the World we must appear strong and I have no confidence this man would keep us strong. Strength is a strong deterrant and Ron Paul would take it away, only in a different way then Obama is doing. It would be a bad thing to elect a man like Ron Paul to the highest office in the land then find out he is just like his fellows—”Not the man we thought he would be.”

    −Brenda
    • Ok, so, if Ron Paul does win are you going to build a bunker in your backyard? For real, is his foreign policy all that scary or you can't help but repeat what you'e heard a thousand times?

      −Ducky
    • Dr.Paul would build on the defences of America,no weaken them. That is country clubb republican talk.He would bring our men and women home and stop getting us entangled in forgien desputes. The reality of it all is that war is money.Money for certain global corps. Why should it always be the US to maintain peace in the world? LOL..So far,it has not worked. As a Vet from Nam and a Sr.Drill Instructer in the U.S.M.C. , I have seen certain misuses of funds that would drive anyone nuts.Ron Paul is right. And you reciting their talking points will not change that.

      −Knightflyer
    • You people are all looney toon if you think that Ron Paul will increase our defenses. He is to the left of Obama on his military stance. Yes, Ducky, I probably would build a bunker, he is naive and foolish in thinking that if we just "be nice" to the Taliban they will respond in any civil manner. No, he is not Presidential material. However, I would love to see him in charge of the Fed. He'd get it cleaned up in no time.

      −JulesV29
  7. Ron Paul is not the sharpest knife in the drawer and is truly crazy, somewhat derranged and just plain zany.He can give the middle finger to Israel, legalize drugs but in these 2 cases as in others this idiot is in the minority

    −Howie Carr listener
    • Ron Paul scares me as much as Obama, both have no cares for our military or homeland safety. I am afraid Paul will turn off our allies and enemies as well as he does me, and we need someone who can get the respect of other countries and not bow to the enemies. Ron Paul has had a newsletter that is detestable and then says he didn't have anything to do with the comments…. Hey, you have words in your publication, you better well damn know they are there before they hit the public as your words. Rand Paul, I respect him more and if he were running in his father's place, I might consider voting for that Paul, but not the father who is too old in my mind and I am a senior citizen not far behind him in age, so it is not a biased age comment, but my comment is from the heart, I will not vote for Ron Paul if he is the last man standing…. oops, that gives a vote to the Obama, so I will vote but hold my nose.

      −GUEST
    • How do you Romney or demmo-commie people always show up.RON PAUL is the man of the times. Not sharp mentally?Lets see,an award winning Doctor,A Congressman several times over.I think you just insulted a few hundred thousand Texans. For a man his age,his ideas a SHARPE and to the point.

      −Knightflyer
    • Ahhh… Name calling ! The refuge of those with no intellectual ability to express something worthwhile to consider. Fortunately, most people are smart enough to recognize remarks such as yours for what they are…

      −Al_Bundy
    • Have you actually done your research on Ron Paul or just being spoon-fed the Republican establishment talking points? Speak intelligently and at least debat his positions instead of resorting to elementary playground name-calling. Look up what he actually says about his positions instead of listening to the establishment's twist on it. You will be surprised and maybe even feel foolish like I did when I did my homework on the man. He has my support now.

      −dfijan
  8. So now ACORN is working to get Paul on the ticket for an easy hand-it-to-Obama election this November? I thought it extremely strange that the Virginia primary Republican ballot contained only the names of Paul and Romney – the two candidates most likely to give the election to Obama – when at the time there were at least 3 other viable candidates in the race. I wrote in the name of Rick Santorum, who continues to be a very viable candidate and is now surging to the top. I hope and pray he ends up getting the nomination and then the Presidency. America needs him at the helm starting in January of ’13!

    −Victoria DeLacy
    • Santorum is to inexperienced to be POTUS – he comes on like middle management not President of the Co. He is probably a nice guy but that is not enough to get to the top. Besides as I have said before – DC plays by their own rules & the elite call the shots & whose turn it is @ bat. — Rick ain't up yet.

      −CaptRCG
    • I believe they were not on the ballot because they didn't follow the proper procedure to be included on the ballot. They didn't file their paperwork in time.

      −sawu
    • That's completely backwards. Ron Paul is the only Republican that can win against Obama. For some strange reason so called Republicans are demanding the Democrats crossover and vote for people they hate, or imagining they will. You have no idea how much rage there is against Santo and Gingrich. Dems have been in a livid rage over what they term "contract on America" since Clinton. Have you seen any liberal comments about Santo, Romney and Gingrich they overwhelmingly hate them go to the internet click on almost any article about them and them click on an article about Ron Paul and read the comments underneath. So you want another big government statist a Democrat of a different color running under the Republican banner, instead of Ron Paul true to our fundamental priciples?

  9. The Statesman Ron Paul and his band of loyal supporters against all the self serving, short sighted, putrid insider politicians who only care about themselves! Ron Paul 2012 or no one for me!

    −BankerBailouts
  10. The fact is that only Ron Paul can beat Obama. The problem with the GOP is that it has become infected with Progressives just like the Democrats have been for years. Conservatives are a hugh threat to the Progressive game plan and that is why they fear Ron Paul. That is why the media has drummed the mantra against Ron Paul, HE CAN NEVER BE NOMINATED, that mantra causes folks to look to who the media says can win, which is why they always talk about Romney. Romney is a Progressive who cannot beat Obama and that is why the media loves him. Vote Conservative VOTE FOR RON PAUL.

    Randy Rose
  11. Its about time!

    −dave
  12. Everybody jumped on the idiot media bandwagon of the worrisome Ron Paul foreign policy. Nothing worrisome about it. This country needs a good dose of isolationism to close the borders, and let the rest of the world take care of itself for awhile until the mess in Washington is cleaned up from reckless spending,no budget, devaluing the dollar, having too many regulatory agencies and overpaid bureaucrats. All of it is unconstitutional and the only guy standing staunchly with the Constitution is Ron Paul. Once his goals are achieved the job market will open up profusely and all you lazy bums on food stamps are going to have to get off your butts and feed yourselves. According to the Constitution, the government owes you nothing.

    −Eddie G.
    • MSM will do anything to provide dishonest information on Dr. Paul
All one has to do is look at his voting record and you will see the man is not for sale!
Can you say that about the others?

      −Karl Kocher
  13. Some of you people better wake up Ron Paul is the one we need in the white house all you can say is Ron Paul is nuts or he is to old if you cant come up with any thing better then that you better shut up I will voteonly for Ron Paul and my family will vote for him as well

    −Maxine
  14. Gotta love the people with their heads stuck in the sand and the outright liars that say Paul doesn't support Israel. Between him and Newt, I would place my money on Ron Paul to support Israel and not Newt, heck there is proof to that fact. When Israel bombed the Iraqi reactor, Congress voted to condemn Israel. Both Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich were members of the House. Every House republican EXCEPT Ron Paul voted to condemn Israel. That's right Newt Gingrich condemned Israel for taking action.
It is insane that someone would trust Newt while claiming that the only republican who stuck his neck out for Israel would try to destroy them.

    −Doc P
  15. I will not waste folks’ time attempting to argue the point. I’m just going to do everything with MY power to see that Ron Paul is our presidential candidate.

    −Bob Thayer
  16. Everybody bitches about Ron's anti-War position. But, in today's midEast turmoil, setting this one out might be the best position We The People can take. There will be plenty of time after 2016 to elect a Hawk and go get the leftover oil after the bodies decompose and the fires die out. Keep our kids safe and at home till the Muslims kill each other for a while.

  17. I confess, I allowed myself to trust what others were saying (or I should say twisting) about Ron Paul and a few months ago I was totally against supporting Ron Paul, mainly because of his position on foreign policy. It wasn't until I was challenged by Voddie Baucham's (a man I highly respect) article of why he supported Ron Paul. I posted his article to my FB page and a friend of mine took me to task on Ron Paul. So I did my homework and went straight to the source, Ron Paul. I took the time to listen to him talk in interviews on his positions on various policies and why he supported those positions. I was surprised at what I learned and felt very foolish that I, who pride myself on doing my homework, was so easily swayed by sources I thought I could trust. Folks, stop listening to everyone else and do your own research on the candidates. Ron Paul has my support now. He is a true conservative and I believe the best candidate for president.

  18. So thankful to hear this good news! Go, Ron Paul!
