Colorado student drops out over choir song praising Allah
Fox News reports,
A Colorado high school student says he quit the school choir after an Islamic song containing the lyric “there is no truth except Allah” made it into the repertoire.
James Harper, a senior at Grand Junction High School in Grand Junction, put his objection to singing “Zikr,” a song written by Indian composer A.R. Rahman, in an email to Mesa County School District 51 officials. When the school stood by choir director Marcia Wieland’s selection, Harper said, he quit.
“I don’t want to come across as a bigot or a racist, but I really don’t feel it is appropriate for students in a public high school to be singing an Islamic worship song,” Harper told KREX-TV. “This is worshipping another God, and even worshipping another prophet … I think there would be a lot of outrage if we made a Muslim choir say Jesus Christ is the only truth.”
But district spokesman Jeff Kirtland defended the decision to include the song.
“Choral music is often devoted to religious themes. … This is not a case where the school is endorsing or promoting any particular religion or other non-educational agenda. The song was chosen because its rhythms and other qualities would provide an opportunity to exhibit the musical talent and skills of the group in competition, not because of its religious message or lyrics,” Kirtland told FoxNews.com in an email while noting that the choir “is a voluntary, after-school activity.”
“Students are not required to participate, and receive no academic credit for doing so,” he said.
But hey, guess what. You’re still paying for this anyway—via this ridiculous notion of religious pluralism and alleged neutrality in the schools, taxpayers are funding such praise to Allah, and even worse, all religions as filtered through the lens of secular humanism. There is no neutrality, and Christian students in Colorado will now be singing praises to the only god Allah, and even though they are not required to participate, Christian parents are in fact required to pay for it through taxation.
Only one student had the guts not to engage in idolatry and blasphemy.
James did what every Christian should have done years ago: get out. And even better, fight to end the ridiculous system that forces people to pay for humanist and pluralist indoctrination.

Reverse the roles and you get (insert religion) students now sing praise to Jesus and (insert religion) parents have to pay for it through taxes. I am a Christian and I believe in religious FREEDOM. They are as FREE to sing their songs as we Christians are to sing ours. Every time a Christian complains that they shouldn't have to endure their faith, we give them ammunition against us not to have to endure our faith. I do not see that this student suggested and was denied a Christian song to be included, because in that case he would have been right. Christians are not called to oppress other faiths, we are called to stand for Christianity. And in a free country, that means having the freedom to worship Christ while your neighbor is free to worship Allah.
It's "luke warm" Christians like you who have stood by and allowed Christianity to suffer as it does. "He who stands for nothing, will fall for anything." I pray you will wake up before you are either being forced to convert to islam or getting your head cut off for not. With your attitude i hope you enjoy your new god, allah. God bless this brave young man who stood up for Christian principles.

I personally wish we'd stop fighting to change the schools and simply obey Yahweh. The schools are Caesar's, but our children are not. If we gave to Caesar what is Caesar's (public schools) and gave to Yahweh what is his (our children), there would be no more school system to pay for. As a Believer, I can't hand my kids over to the government for their education.

Jesus didn't speak English, and never spoke the English word "God." When Jesus spoke about his heavenly father, the Christian God, the word that came from his very lips was in his language, the Aramaic "Allah."
As Christians, every time you feel disgust and hatred at hearing the world "Allah," remember how those same sounds and syllables filled Jesus' heart with love and how it inspired him to love you, 2000 years later.

Yes, but words take on different meanings in different cultures and different times. The wording in this song is definitely applied to the Islamic false god and that's how it's recognized. Agreed that 2000 years ago "Allah" was recognized as the Judeo/Christian God, but now it doesn't imply that.

I think that Jesus did not use the Arabic word "Allah", although modern Christians in Arabic speaking countries to use that word. Bible translators made, what I think is a critical mistake, when using the second noun in the phrase "there is no god but Allah", rather than the first noun. But the point is actually moot, because the song was not in Arabic or Aramaic, but in English, so the meaning and the use of the name "Allah" could not be mistaken.
I would have stayed in the choir and every time they sang that song I would have substituted Jesus for allah

Yeshua more than likely said Hashem rather than Allah. This is what Jews call Him in casual conversations. Adonai is also appropriate in Liturgical situations. YHWH being the most common way to spell his name since Jews made it a law to not say Yahweh.

According to the banner title for this article from American Vision News, the boy "Student drops out of school over choir song praising Allah", but the article says he dropped out of the school chroir. Such deception by a so-called Christian based group is not praise worthy. However, it is true this is but ONE kid who had the guts to follow Jesus and his faith by not worshiping (even in music) another god. It's also a case in point for sincere Christian parents to home school their children.

Jason misinterpreted the lyrics? Not so. He had the courage all Christians should have, to sing to and praise only Almighty God; not Allah! As Jason said, this is a Christian nation. Yes, even though we haven’t acted like it for decades. America was founded as a Christian nation. As a Christian Jason could not sing a song extoling Allah. It’s telling that the instructor said the song was reviewed by parents and students prior to its selection. Why didn’t Jason and his parents see it? Or were their objections disregarded?

The Choir Director must be a Muslim! It is evident that our government and public schools are prejudice to Christians & Jews. . This student is correct and saying that the choir would not be allowed to sing a song about Jesus! Rules are only for the Christians & Jews….not the Muslims! Our government is part of the problem regarding prejudices in America and not helping to find the solution! There is a good saying: Don't be a part of the problem, but be a part of the solution! There is no balance in our government or compromise!
This is America and we ARE a Christian nation! Bravo to the guy that stood up for our christian beliefs! More people throughout the nation need to stand up and proclaim our christian values.

The teacher should be fired immediately and the School Principle should also be fired if he/she does not fire the teacher.
