Senate defeats liberty amendments, approves “Battlefield” USA
Despite attempts by Rand Paul (R-KY) to uphold the Constitution, the Senate approved Levin and McCain’s bill advancing military powers on U.S. soil and against U.S. citizens. The bill which already passed the House passed the Senate 61-37.
Now, in a twist of frightening irony, the only hope to preserve liberty in this case is Obama’s promise to veto the bill.
The bill, according to Lindsey Graham (RINO-SC), would define America as part of the “battlefield.” It authorizes the military to detain American citizens without warrant, without court order, without due process, without trial, without access to an attorney, indefinitely—based purely on the military’s suspicion.
Mark Udall (D-CO) offered an amendment to replace the indefinite detention sections with language calling for further study of the matter. Rand Paul went even further, offering an amendment to strike it completely. Both were defeated, even after Paul’s solemn warning that it destroys the Constitutional protections of Americans and supports perpetual war:
this bill explicitly states that no part of this bill is to imply any restriction on the authorization to use force. No congressional review is allowed or imagined. No victory is defined. No peace is possible if victory is made impossible by definition.
He cites James Madison: ”The means of defense against foreign danger historically have become instruments of tyranny at home.”
He continued, “We are talking about people who are merely SUSPECTED of a crime. And we are talking about American citizens. If these provisions pass, we could see American citizens being sent to Guantanamo Bay.”
Paul asked McCain on the floor for confirmation that the bill would authorize targeting even Americans. McCain responded candidly: it can target them “no matter who they are.”
Paul also offered an amendment calling Congress to declare a formal end to military force in Irag, since troops are now being withdrawn anyway. This also was defeated.
Now this endangered thread of the Constitution hangs upon a promise from Obama.

Looks like we have a lot of changes to make in November in the House and Senate. This law is an attack on the American citizenry and those who voted for it are traitors. I hope your hearing us McCain and Graham, and the rest of you who have done this. I wonder what really happened to McCain while he was a POW? He sure is anti American since that time. Also, as I've seen before, we have about 70 members of the American Communist Party in our congress such as Maxine Waters and Old Barney Frank who just announced his retirement. That leaves about 68 others. We need to ID them and dump them. This is the kind of garbage you get from politicians like that and we must get rid of it starting with Obummer. Do you really think he would Veto something like this that benefits him? If he doesn't, it says all we need to know about him among the other stuff we already know.
If they're brazen enough to do this, then the next 2 steps would be to outlaw gun ownership and open confiscation, and then to suspend all elections.

Did the House already pass their companion bill? Why paint this as if Obama is the only means for defeating this bill? Please help me understand what I am not seeing. I do think that there is some alarm when a “quote” leading Republican in the Senate seems to be on the wrong side of this issue.
This bill is blatantly unconstitutional! We need to vote all of them out in the next several election cycles! We can expect the liar in the White House not to veto it, as he promised! He'd like to lock up everyone who disagrees with him before the election!!

Looks like more and more lawsuits against the government for circumventing Basic Constitutional Rights and Provisions. Isn't the Bill of Rights written in stone, and can only be changed by further Amendment? Yet, these are basic INALIENABLE RIGHTS, and Chuck Schumer nor the cad John McCain can write them away, just as Congress couldn't grant themselves the sole ability to declare war through the War Powers Act.!
And the bigger question here now is this: How can any member of Congress, individually or collectively, grant themselves a status above the citizens they represent, without dissolving that same representation? If Congress, over the years, has granted themselves special status, special favors, special perks, indeed make themselves a special protected class, then how on earth can they represent anyone outside of that class??
Answer: they can't. They have to be reduced in status, immediately, in order to represent us.
44 Neocon Republicans voted for this bill led by the midget McCain. When our senator is up for re-election, I will vote for the Democrat, at least then I will know what to expect. If Ron Paul does not win and get the presidential nomination, I will vote for Obama because a vote for a Romney or Newt is the same. America is going down, but the majority of Americans are just too stupid to realize this. How sad, because they will be the first ones to scream when they finally wake up.

Ron Paul is perhaps the only Sane person on the Hill. He certainly is the only one with the proven track record that supports the Constitution as it was intended. He proposes we bring the troops home and secure our borders immediately, how is that NOT defending America? Certainly dropping bombs in the middle east and invading countries in the middle east does NOT defend America, especially after we learned 9/11 was BECAUSE we had troops in the "Holy land".
So if psychotic means you support the Constitution and support securing our borders, then I submit we need more psychotics in Congress.
Our United States Congress and United States Supreme Court needs to read the "Constitution of the United States of America" and govern according to it.
This law USERPTS THE CONSTITUTION OF THE U S A of which can only be droped by an AMMENDENT TO THE CONSTITUTION BY ALL THE STATES. It is now for sure that McCain and Levin are SENILE and against the LEGAL PROTECTION OF THE CITIZENS OF THE U S A.
Excuse me, did I see McCain as one of the sponsors!!! No wonder his presidential campaign was so flat — even Sarah Palin couldn't revive it. I have to admit, my liberal brother often goes to the government website and reads these bills for himself. Often he says that they don't contain the language that is being trumpeted about by conservative blogs. It is hard for me to believe that 44 Republican Senators could be so deceived (as un-conservative as they may have become lately) to vote for an evil bill. My brother thinks conservative organizations intentionally distort these provisions to stir up passions and get people to give more money. To a degree I think this is the kettle calling the pot black. However I wish proponents and detractors would offer their best arguments so readers could make a more intelligent decision rather than being led around by the nose. Even at this there's always opportunity for personal bias — you just can't get around it. So I've come full circle and have to admit I'll have to trust like-minded individuals and hope and pray they are sincere and honest in their presentations and not harboring other motives. Though I trust conservatives a little more in this regard – it's still a bit scary.
