Mark Wachtler writes for Examiner.com,
When the Democrats, Republicans and the few corporations that own America’s entire news industry tried to find a way to insure that the powers that be, stay the powers that be, they came up with the Commission on Presidential Debates. As a result, it’s been an entire generation – 20 years – since an independent or opposition party Presidential candidate was allowed to participate. Now, there’s a ‘free and equal’ debate where every Presidential candidate with a mathematical chance of winning is invited.
Commission on Presidential Debates
According to the Commission’s website, ‘The Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) was established in 1987 to ensure that debates, as a permanent part of every general election, provide the best possible information to viewers and listeners. Its primary purpose is to sponsor and produce debates for the United States presidential and vice presidential candidates and to undertake research and educational activities relating to the debates.’
One look at the CPD’s debate sponsors reveals an assortment of multi-national corporations, billionaires and other less-than-sincere entities such as the top two on the list – Anheuser Busch, aka InBev (A Belgian company) and BBH New York, aka BBH Global (a UK Advertising agency). The list provided by the CPD continues with; The Howard G. Buffet Foundation, Sheldon S. Cohen, Esq., Crowell & Moring LLP, International Bottled Water Association (IBWA), The Kovler Fund, Philips Electronics North America, Southwest Airlines and YWCA USA.
