The “horrific” details behind Republicans’ caving
Most media outlets are not telling the whole story behind the payroll tax-cut extension: most have highlighted the tax cut itself, how House Republicans were blocking the extension, and how they recently caved under pressure, handing Obama a major political victory.
Democrats are celebrating the Republicans’ caving for good reason, because there’s way more to the story than just Republicans blocking tax cuts. The Wall Street Journal reports,
Rank-and-file frustration has existed all year, and never really left even when Boehner tried to accommodate the concerns of his restive freshmen. The payroll-tax cut battle put a fine point on the caucus’s broader concerns about government spending and budget gimmicks, in part because the $33 billion, two-month package is set to be paid for with fees charged by mortgage financiers Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac over 10 years.
“The policy is horrific,” said Rep. Mo Brooks (R., Ala.) He said that “increasing the costs of mortgages hurts homeowners of all incomes,” adding “it’s hard to figure out how the senators could have done worse–all for two months.”
Meanwhile, Boehner’s procedural tactics are just as suspect:
House speaker agreed to pass the two-month extension on Friday morning by unanimous consent, a fast-track procedural maneuver that guarantees passage unless lawmakers book plane tickets and fly back to Washington in time to object.
“Given the late hour of notification, there’s no way I can make it,” said Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R., Kansas). “I’m disappointed. That’s not the process by which I thought we would consider things like this,” he said, adding “this is the kind of stuff that people hate about Washington.”
In other words, Republicans have “caved” by agreeing to increase mortgage fees for 10 years in order to fund a mere two months worth of tiny tax cuts. Instead of taxes being raised January 1, they go up March 1 instead, while the higher mortgage fees endure for a decade. Brilliant. And to score this great political achievement, the House speaker is willing to use Pelosi- and Reid-style procedural tricks to exclude the toughest opposition from the vote. Epic.
And this is why the move is indeed a major political victory for the radical Left: because the Republicans are acting just like them.

That does it! Boehner and EVERY ESTABLISHMENT REPUBLICAN MUST GO! The methods used by Boehner come straight from Reid and Pelosi! They don't believe in our government or listening to the will of the people. Boehner had his chance and he blew it! BY UNANIMOUS CONSENT BOEHNER IS FIRED! And that goes for every Republican Senator who also voted for this two-month extension, too! FIRE THEM ALL!

This is so disgusting! We don't need the dems to shaft the people. With so called leaders like Boehner, we just shaft ourselves.
These creepy so called leaders always cave because they can't stand to be called names. We, the people are waiting patiently, hopefully, to see the repubs have the "courage" of their convictions and stand firm against those absolutely corrupt democrats.

I hope the solid conservatives in the house revolt against Boehner and replace him with a speaker with cojones.
Perhaps if he knows the move is serious, he'll grow a backbone. For now, Mr Boehner, go home and cry to your mommy that they called you names. Wah wah!
If I didn't know better, John Boehner is as dumb as he looks. The guy is not smart at all. He does not have the ability to explain what is really going on. If he opened his mouth and told Americans that this 2-month tax cut bill is to be paid for with fees charged by mortgage financiers Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac over 10 years and everyone who buys a house will see their mortgage fees rise, virtually wiping out the reduced interest rates. See how simple that was to state! Boehner is either too stupid to figure it out, or listen to the right people, or he's so ingrained with the corruption that he has become the corruption.
The best bet in 2012 is to either vote out Boehner for a tea-party fiscal conservative, or if Boehner is the only game in town, vote him back in and neutralize him by removing him from the position of the Speaker.
Boehner has just proved that he is as corrupt as the Democrats. He sold out the tea Party and true conservatives for political expediency and a holiday vacation. Pathetic.
Why am I just now hearing about the 10 year mortgage fee hike? This should have been all over the news. No one even mentioned it. I guarantee that most Americans had no idea that this was part of the plan.
That is how they planned it. They don;t want us to know what is happening to us until it is too late. We need to start focusing on legislation to stop hiding bills within other bills. The only way we will ever know what is going on is to have ONE ISSUE / ONE BILL / NO RIDERS. Start harping on your elected officials NOW,
There are not two parties any more, but rather simply, a "political class" whose only ambitions are position, power, and privilege. I fear the handful of beleaguered freshmen in congress that actually are duty-bound patriots, will be swept away by the power brokers and their manipulation of the pendulum of public discontent before they have a chance to make a real difference.

You people need to get your heads out of your asses.Boehner you are turning out to be a poor excuse of the speaker of the house. Don't not continue to allow the democrats to run the show ,show some backbone and stand up for the american people or if Dumbommer gets back into office this nation will be completely destroyed not for us but for our children and their children. This is the only shot you have left to show the people of this nation that you have the BALLS to take a stand or it will be your last. Remember what HITLER did in the 40's by being an egotistical maniac like OBAMA he destroyed his nation don't let it happen to ours.
I guess all that really matters is that Congress gets to go home for Christmas. Forget about the next 10 years.
Stupidity has just shone up on a new level. There should be a law that nothing is passed at the last second. It never turns out well and is always wrong. I think It's planned that way. Deception is easy in a rush, no one reads or cares what is happening when they want to go home for the holidays. Most of the time It's only the people that take the hit, never congress. We really need that to change.

The Republicans might as well stop trying to "do the right thing," since they never have the will to stick with their principles. They don't call them "The Stupid Party" for nothing. 2012 is looking grim if they can't articulate the reason why a silly two month extension is a BAD idea.
